INVITATION
It is my pleasure to invite you, and your students, to Kyung Hee University School of English Language and Culture’s production of Big Love directed by Visiting Professor and playwright Kyoung H. Park. Big Love was written by American playwright Charles Mee and won OBIE for “Best Play.”
Big Love is a play about fifty brides that flee their fifty grooms and seek shelter in Italy. When the grooms land in a helicopter and find their brides, the women—forced to marry the grooms—decide that their only escape is to kill their husbands on their wedding night.
Charles Mee’s plays are renowned for his unique collage-like style of writing, where ancient stories, contemporary news, and found texts are reconstructed into new interpretations of existing narratives. His dialogue is lyrical, physical, and demands from both actors and audiences to stretch the limits of our imagination. In Big Love, Mee explores in poetry, song and dance the definition of marriage and depicts a hilarious battle of the sexes where only true love can survive.
Kyung Hee University’s School of English Language and Culture is delighted to welcome teachers and students of the English language to our school. Through the arts, we hope to provide cultural bridges to neighboring communities and deepen the reach of English-language education. Big Love will be presented at Kyung Hee University’s Arts & Design Hall (Global campus in Suwon) on Friday, September 26th at 6:00 PM and Saturday, September 27th at 4:00 PM.
