Hiking through the country for Korean and Japanese college students looking for the past traces of Joseontongsinsa

Kyung Hee University (KHU) and Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (RAPU) co-hosts ¡®Hiking through the country for Korean and Japanese college students looking for the past traces of Joseontongsinsa¡¯ from August 6th to 26th. A total of 35 students, including 14 from KHU and 21 from RAPU, participate celebrating the fourth centennial anniversary of Joseontongsinsa.

This hiking was planned to activate cultural exchange and improve friendly relationship between two universities through co-promotion, so it can arouse the public¡¯s interest in research and restoration of ancestors¡¯ road.

Starting from the opening ceremony at board room on the second floor in University Administration Building of KHU at 8 on August 6th, students visit Changgyunggung, Korean royal palace. After gathering at Namdaemun, the starting point, students hike to the Busan, which is a total of 484km. There will be the second hiking from Busan to Japan this winter vacation.

Participants will walk from Namdaemun to Busan, including Seongnam, Yongin, Icheon, Chungju, Mungkyung, Andong, Kyungju, Ulsan, etc.

Meanwhile, participants hold seminars every evening about local development between Korean and Japanese college students in the billeting place during the hiking. Topics for seminar are varied from ¡®Icheon china festival¡¯, ¡®Andong hahoe folk village¡¯, ¡®Chungju industrial city¡¯ to ¡®Yonginsi¡¯s development thoughtless for the environment¡¯.

Park Sang-uk, the leader of the hiking, says, ¡°We prepared this program to attract the public¡¯s interest in research on the past road celebrating the fourth centennial anniversary of Joseontongsinsa.¡± He added expressing his hopes, ¡°I guess there will be several difficulties during hiking like present relationship between Korea and Japan. Having said that, I hope every participant finishes hiking, and we can contribute to promote friendly relationship.¡±
