The 3rd launch ceremony for Suwon Kyung Hee Social Service Corps


The 3rd launch ceremony for ‘Kyung Hee Social Service Corps’ was held on the Peace Hall, the 3rd floor of Central Library of Suwon Campus on April 17. This event was begun with stirring remarks from Choue Won-kyung, vice president of Kyung Hee University(KHU). There was agreement ceremony between Kyung Hee Social Service Corps(KHSSC) and Gyeonggi-do National Medical Center(GNMC) and KHSSC gave 1004 blood donor’s official registration cards to GNMC.

KHSSC consisted of total 626 people with 371 individual members, who are 310 students and 61 school personnel, and 255 club members of 7 clubs will volunteer through 8 volunteer teams or volunteer programs consisted by individual or group.

The current KHSSC has 8 volunteer teams. First one is ‘Gyeonggi-do National Medical Center volunteer team’. It will help as interpreters or service progression on free traveling clinic that is provided to low-income bracket and foreign workers. Second one is ‘Hae Song Won volunteer team’ that targets the elder of nursing home. Third one is ‘Mentoring volunteer team’ that undertakes learning or character education targeting low-income family children near elementary or middle schools. Fourth one is ‘Lighthouse keeper volunteer team’ which is for visually impaired people of Gyeonggi-do Welfare Center for the Disabled. Fifth one is ‘Horse Riding Therapy volunteer team’, which is on the purpose of rehab training for disabled children under the Samsung Electronics Equestrian Team. Sixth one is ‘Habitat volunteer team’ which is with Habitat for Humanity Korea that builds houses for the homeless. Seventh one is ‘Book Donation Campaign volunteer team’ which will campaign for one person one book donation targeting Kyungheeans. And there is another last volunteer team. Beside these, there are Kimchi-making for the winter volunteer team and Briquette volunteer team. Volunteers can make their own programs and help others.

The 3rd KHSSC will volunteer from April 17 to February 29, 2008. Students will get certificate of volunteer work and additional points when they apply for KHU Overseas Volunteer or Korean University Council for Social Service Overseas Volunteer.

Jung Jung-seon and Park Jong-hyeok, who made a pledge of the 3rd KHSSC said, “I will volunteer from the heart beyond credits and social benefits. I’d like to help from small things around me in the beginning.
